Can an approval be reversed?

In BE Custody, whether an approval can be reversed depends on the type of action, the workflow status, and whether the underlying action has already been executed or confirmed.

Users should treat every approval as final unless the interface or workflow clearly allows further action.

Before an action is completed

If an action is still pending and has not yet been completed, it may be possible for the request to expire, be rejected, or be cancelled depending on the workflow and configuration.

This may apply to actions such as:

  • Pending transaction approvals
  • Pending governance requests
  • Pending policy or configuration changes
  • Other workflows that require additional approval before completion

The options available depend on the organisation’s BE Custody setup and the current status of the request.

After a transaction is submitted to the network

Once a blockchain transaction has been submitted to the relevant network, it generally cannot be reversed by Bitpanda Enterprise Custody.

If the transaction is confirmed on-chain, it is typically final. Recovery may not be possible if assets were sent to the wrong address, wrong network, unsupported destination, or unintended recipient.

After a governance or configuration change

Some governance or configuration changes may be updated again through a new authorised workflow, depending on the organisation’s setup.

However, this should not be treated as a reversal of the original approval. A new change may require its own review, approval, and audit trail.

What should approvers assume?

Approvers should assume that approval may allow the action to proceed.

Before approving, check that:

  • The action is expected
  • The requester or instruction is legitimate
  • The details are correct
  • The action matches internal records or approvals
  • The request does not appear unusual or inconsistent
  • You understand the operational impact of approving

Do not approve if any detail is unclear or unexpected.

What should I do if I approved something by mistake?

If you believe you approved something by mistake, act immediately.

You should:

  • Follow your organisation’s internal escalation process
  • Notify the relevant administrator or authorised contact
  • Avoid taking further action until the issue has been reviewed
  • Contact Bitpanda Enterprise Custody Support through the approved support channel if support is required

Include the relevant request, transaction, wallet, asset, network, and timing details where available.

Do not include passwords, PINs, private keys, seed phrases, API keys, API secrets, or other sensitive authentication information in a support request.

What should I do if I suspect unauthorised activity?

If you suspect unauthorised activity, do not approve any further requests.

Follow your organisation’s security escalation process immediately and contact Bitpanda Enterprise Custody Support through the approved support channel.
